Get the Jump on Spring - Drill Maintenance
Duncan Drills recommended maintenance tips.
- Check all bolted connections are tight and nothing appears to be moving.
- Check the gearbox oil level with the sight glass. It is recommended to change the gearbox oil once a year.
- Check the drive chains and sprockets for excessive wear. Lubricate chains, as necessary.
- Give the wheel leg pivots a good greasing to push out any dust that may have made its way in there.
- Grease the hydraulic ram collars and ensure they are moving freely. Check all hydraulic hoses and fittings for leaks including the fan on an air seeder.
- Check and set the tyre pressures including the jockey wheel tyre. Inspect the wheel bearings and grease. Check the wheel nuts.
- Grease the disc opener pivots and check the bearings for any lateral movement (wobble).
- Check that the seed hoses have not perished or cracked, and don’t have any excessive sag. Trim to suit.
- Inspect the framework and drawbar for cracks.
- Inspect the seed flaps and ensure they are set correctly (gravity box drills). Check the rubber flap inside the metering unit to ensure it is intact (air seeder).
- Fully grease the machine including the disc openers, harrows, roller, jack stand and drawbar.
